"The roads of the Targa are always beautiful" says Mario Passanante, with Enrico Di Mauro under the flag of the MAFRA team, upon arrival in Collesano, near the historic Vaccarella turn, before continuing his route to Campofelice di Roccella for the mid-day break.
The level of competition is very high even today: his 1937 FIAT 508C had already won last year – navigated by Himara Bottini who this year is driving the 1966 Porsche 911T with Carlo Di Giusto, the crew of Ruote Classiche racing for Tag Heuer - after a tough battle with the one of Giovanni Moceri and Valeria Dicembre, from 1939.
This year the duel was repeated again, in a close head-to-head which also included a third FIAT 508C, a model clearly loved by the champions of historical regularity, from 1938, driven by Angelo Accardo and Filippo Becchina. The performance of the 1947 Volvo PV444 of Antonino Margiotta and Vincenzo Bertieri was also excellent, great precision also for this crew in the “climb” of the Madonie, then maintained during the afternoon even if unfortunately slowed down by a technical problem. In the second part of the day the tests in Sciara, Caccamo and Termini Imerese before returning to the Museo dei Motori e dei Meccanismi del Sistema Museale di Palermo which hosts the race direction.
226 kilometers traveled today, bringing the total to over 530 over the two days of competition. A very tough test on a path as though as fascinating, faced with great constancy by the numerous pre-war cars, which have once again proved their validity, thanks to the passion and care that moves the owners, in accordance with the values that have always been shared and promulgated by ACI Storico.
"The Sicilian roads are a bit burdensome for this kind of cars, you need to be careful and not overwork them, but with passion you can solve all the problems" explains Maurizio De Marco, second driver of Olindo Deserti, with the 1929 Lancia Lambda VIII Series, the oldest car in the race: a rare collector's jewel that has made Sicilian roads its museum. First participation for them in this competition "We are very happy to be there, we came to win, but then we thought about it: the Sicilians are too strong, we can consider them the university professors of regularity".
