Targa Florio: In Milano Auto Classica presented the 100th edition of “a Cursa”

In this edition the Historic Speed with the big drivers of the history of Targa Florio and the Ferrari Tribute

The 100th edition of Targa Florio presented 18th  March 2016 in Milan during the prestigious Salon Auto Classica. The oldest race in the world, named by the founderVincenzo Florio “a Cursa” will be held on the Sicilian roads from May 5th to 8th. Indeed, four motor sports competitions will be held: Targa Florio Classic, Targa Florio Historic Speed, Targa Florio Rally and Targa Florio Historic Rally. With Targa Florio for all fans of Ferrari start the “Ferrari Tribute” to delight of all fans.

Speed lovers the Targa Florio Rally, the third step on the calendar of the Italian Rally Championship with a 1.5 coefficient, valid for the Asfalto Rally Trophy and Regional Championship and the Targa Florio Historic Rally, round three of the Italian Historical Car Rally Championship. 

Memories of a glorious past featuring unique models and drivers will be the stars of the Historic speedGiancarlo Minardi, Project Manager of event, said: «The Historic Speed will be performed on May 7th 2016 by the most glorious drivers in the history of Targa Florio: Jacky Ickx, Nino Vaccarella, Arturo Merzario, Gijs Van Lennep and many others. Among the starting cars there are the Alfa Romeo T33, the Porsche Carrera Slr for Historic Museum, the Ferrari and even more».

But the Targa Florio Classic will be the main date for the great history of vintage motor sports, the exclusive regularity race reserved to cars of special historical and sporting prestige. The Classic will be like a time machine to live again the emotion of the old days, thanks to the most beautiful cars in the world, built between 1906 and 1970, which will once again challenge each other on the roads which, in the past, already witnessed the feats of champions of international standing such as Fangio, Varzi, Minoia, Nuvolari, Merzario and Vaccarella. 

Angelo Pizzuto, Chairman of the Automobile Club of Palermo said:

«Targa Florio represent the evolution of a century of historical and modern motor sports.The 100th edition is not only a sports event but also a good relaunch opportunity for Sicily. This year we have four competitions which represent the history of Targa Florio».

Trga Florio will be three stages and four days in the company of cars and Sicily's beautiful attractions. On May 5th, sports and technical checks will be held, the “departure village” will be opened in Palermo and celebrations for the 100th edition will take place in the evening. 

The first stage will start on May 6th at 9.00 am in the centre of Palermo heading for Cefalù and returning to the city along the charming “Circuito delle Madonie”. 

The second stage of the competition on May 7th will see the cars leaving from Palermo at 8.00 am in the direction of Agrigento and the amazing Valley of the Temples before heading back to Palermo in the afternoon. Departure is scheduled at 9.00 am for the third and last stage of the “Classic” on Sunday May 9th. The cars will leave from Floriopoli for Cerda to attend Historic speed. The Classic cars will cross the finishing line in Palermo in the evening.

The 100th edition of Targa Flori renowned brands, among them: Alfa Romeo and Abarth are the Events Main Sponsor. Eberhard & Co it’s for first time Sponsor and Official Time Keeper and will presented the special watch of the 100th edition of Targa Florio.
